ePortfolio – Managing Your Portfolio (Overview)

TABLE OF CONTENTS

This article covers the tools available for managing content within your ePortfolio: copying pages between portfolios, organising content with categories, exporting, sharing, and using the blog. Teachers also have access to portfolio assessment tools, covered in section 5.

1 Copying pages

Pages can be copied between portfolios. This is useful when building a portfolio that spans multiple courses or subjects.

To copy a page:

  1. Open the page you want to copy.
  2. Click the Copy button.
  3. Select the portfolio you want to copy the page to.

2 Categories

Pages in a portfolio can be organised into categories, which appear as folders in the portfolio view.

  • Move a page to a category by selecting the category when editing the page.
  • Add, reorder, and remove categories from the Manage categories button in the navigation pane.

Note: Students who have a course with a working portfolio can transfer content from the course directly into a portfolio category. This is useful for including assignment answers and other course content you want to highlight or reflect on in your portfolio.

3 Exporting a portfolio

A portfolio can be exported as a zip file containing all pages, comments, and attachments.

To export your portfolio:

  1. Go to the start page of the portfolio.
  2. Open the menu and select Export portfolio.
  3. Select Download ePortfolio. All portfolio content is combined into a zip file. The process may take some time depending on the amount of data in the portfolio. Once complete, the file will be available for download.

Note: Blog posts are not included in the exported zip file.

4 Sharing a portfolio

The Share portfolio option is found in the same menu as Export portfolio on the portfolio start page. Click Share portfolio to get the URL for the portfolio.

Access to a shared portfolio is controlled by the access level set in Portfolio settings:

5 Assessing an assessment portfolio

Teacher

Teachers can assess a student's assessment portfolio from the course. To enable portfolio assessment:

  1. Go to Course > Reports > Assessment portfolio.
  2. Select Portfolio settings from the menu.

When portfolio assessment has been enabled, teachers can set the assessment when viewing the student's assessment portfolio.

Note: The assessment and any teacher comments are only visible to the teacher and the student.

6 Blog

Prerequisite: The blog feature must be enabled at the site level by a system administrator before it is available to users.

The blog is available from your ePortfolio start page. To enable it, open Global Settings and choose to display your blog.

Blog features include:

  • The blog start page shows the 10 most recent posts.
  • Posts are grouped by month in the navigation menu.
  • Draft posts are visible to the author in the navigation menu but are not shown to visitors.

New comments are indicated in the following places:

  • The blog card on the ePortfolio start page shows a count of new comments.
  • When opening the blog, new comments are shown as a badge on the relevant post.
  • New comments are highlighted in the comment section of the blog post.

Note: Email notifications for new comments are enabled by default. To change this, go to Your settings > Alerts. Comments can also be disabled on individual pages or blog posts.
