Calendar - External Calendars (Teacher)

TABLE OF CONTENTS

1 Overview

The itslearning calendar can be connected to other calendars in two directions:

  • You can add an external calendar (for example, a public iCal feed) so that its events appear in itslearning.
  • You can get an iCal feed for your itslearning calendar so that its events appear in another calendar, such as Google Calendar.

Both options are available to you as a teacher and only affect what you see in your own calendar.

Note: Personal external calendars are only available to teachers. Events from an external calendar are visible only to you.

2 Adding an external calendar to your calendar

In addition to personal, course and project events, you can add an external calendar to the itslearning calendar. Events from this external calendar will then be visible in itslearning.

2.1 Add the calendar

  1. In the calendar, open the left menu and click Add external calendar.

The Add external calendar option in the left menu of the calendar

  1. In the window that opens, paste the iCal URL of the external calendar.
  2. Enter a name for the calendar in the Calendar name field.
  3. Click Save.

2.2 How events from the external calendar appear

Events from the external calendar are added as read-only to the itslearning calendar. It is updated every 10 minutes.

Note that even though the itslearning iCal link is updated every 10 minutes, the other calendar solution you’re using is likely to also have delays. This can be from a couple of minutes to a couple of hours, depending on the solution you are using.
