Thinking behind the current design

The main target group of the mobile app are students. We have wanted to create an application where they can easily find what should they do for their school right now and what is coming up next. Teachers are important as well, as is their own view of follow-up tasks. Messaging is equally available for all user groups.

Since itslearning is a complex service, it is not reasonable to develop all its features for the mobile app. When something is not developed, the mobile app will open its itslearning web version to fulfil the need that each user has. The user is already logged in and can continue to utilise the full itslearning experience. However, you can always start with the app.

Main parts of the itslearning app

Home screen

To make the user interface look more familiar, we are using course cards like in the web version. Underneath course cards, students can find a to-do- list divided into three sections:

  • Now: activities that are overdue for a maximum of 14 days and that have a deadline on the current day or the day after. Announcements that have been published at least three days earlier.
  • Later: activities that have a deadline after tomorrow.
  • No Deadline: all activities that don’t have a set deadline.

Teachers have their own view of the home screen with the same course cards but only a list of follow-up tasks.

Messages

Messages supports the basic functions of messaging: sending and receiving messages.

When sending to many, teachers can decide if they want to send the message as a group message when all recipients can reply to the message so that everyone can see their replies or send the message as 1:1 message to all recipients.

Courses and Calendar

Courses and calendar links in the bottom navigation direct you to appropriate pages in the itslearning web, opening them in a browser on top of the app.

Side menu

The Side menu contains links to

  • editing profile
  • home page of the user site

The side menu also contains access to settings for the dark mode of the app.

In addition, to staff, there are links available to
