H5P lets you create interactive learning content, activities and tasks. As a teacher, you can use H5P directly in itslearning. This article describes how to create an H5P activity in a plan, which options are available and what students see.

1 Overview

H5P is an optional extension. It is only available if it has been integrated into your platform.

2 How it works

You can create H5P activities from Resources or directly in your plans. We recommend creating the activity directly in the plan.

When you add an H5P activity, you have three options:

• New content: Create new content based on an H5P template. Templates that are not yet listed under Select library can be added with Add library (H5P format).
• Existing content: Use content that has been shared with you. You can preview the content and then use it.
• Import content: Import existing content in H5P format.

An H5P element has the same settings as other itslearning elements: visibility, deadline and differentiation (Assigned to). Before saving, you also choose whether results are saved in itslearning, whether retries are allowed and who the content is shared with.

3 Creating an H5P activity in a plan

The following example shows how to create a new multiple choice task in a plan.

1. Open the plan you want. Under Resources and activities, click Add.

   

2. A drop-down menu for resources opens. Click Show all to display the full list of available course resources.

   

3. In the course resources, select the H5P element under Activities.

   

4. Choose whether to create new content, use existing content or import content.

   

   In this example, select a new Multiple Choice task.

   

5. Write the question and enter the answers. Before saving, set the options at the bottom (see 4 Options before saving).

   

6. Set the visibility, the deadline and differentiation (Assigned to).

   

4 Options before saving

You can switch the following options on or off before saving:

4.1 Sharing and icons

With Share, you can publish the task to other teachers on the platform (site). On the existing content tab, an icon shows where the content is available:

• Globe icon: The content is shared on the platform (site).
• Hat icon: The content is only available in this course.
• Person icon: The content is your personal content.

You can remove sharing at any time on the existing content tab with remove sharing.

5 Editing, copying and deleting an H5P element

1. Open the H5P element.
2. Click Edit at the bottom.

In the open H5P element you can see your students' progress, in the same way as for assignments. You can also copy the H5P element here (including to other courses) and delete it.

6 What students see

Students see their H5P tasks:

• in the task list on the course overview
• in the calendar, if a deadline has been set

After taking part, the task is marked as "done" for the student.

7 FAQs

7.1 Error message when opening an H5P element

If you get an error message after opening an H5P element, it is most likely caused by your browser settings under "Privacy and security". Third-party cookies must not be blocked there.
