What's new in our September 2024 release?
As we have now moved to a frequent release process, notes will be published with every release. You can find the external release notes for September below. Release information is published on these pages on Monday/Tuesday before the release is deployed on Wednesday. There is also an automatic upload to our external webpages here: https://itslearning.com/product-updates with automatic translations through a language switcher.
Please note that, in some instances, the release date may change due to holidays or other circumstances. If you want to see which version itslearning is currently running, you can find that information at the bottom of your login page. Want to keep up-to-date with product and release information?

New profile information page: adding recent submissions
We are planning to add all the information that was previously available in the profile card, to the full profile page. This release adds what was previously called Activity but now renamed to Recent submissions. The list is found as a tab at the bottom of the page, next to the "About" section. The list contains up to 10 latest submissions made in test tool, assignment and task tool across all courses (previously restricted to 5). The element title links to the element, while the course title links to the course.
New profile information page: adding reports
We are planning to add all the information that was previously available in the profile card, to the full profile page. This release adds links to Attendance, Behaviour, the aggregated Assessment record and the aggregated Learning Objective progress report. Note that not all these features are in use in all organisations, and the availability depends on this.

ITS-93380 | Updates made in the Learning objective repository were not reflected in courses. This has been fixed. |
2024.9.3 - Release Product Updates in itslearning
Improvements to organisation shown on Applicants tab
When the course catalogue is used, enrolments can be approved on the Applicants tab on the course Participants page. Here, there is a column that shows to which organisation a user belongs. This column always showed the name of the site, or External if the course was added to the external course catalogue. To make this column more informative, we have made some improvements to which organisation is shown for users from the same site:
- If the user has a home organisation set, this organisation is shown.
- If the user doesn’t have a home organisation set, but only belongs to 1 organisation of the type ‘school’, this organisation is shown.
- In other case, the site is shown as organisation

2024.9.2 - Release Product Updates in itslearning
Courses page: Search for courses
When the global search was moved to the main menu, the course search on the Courses page was removed. It is now brought back to support the workflows of teachers with a large number of courses.
Improvement to new course menu - 360° reports
With the introduction of the new course menu, we also moved the 360° report item into the reports page along with other types of reports like assessment record, attendance reports, learning objective reports, etc. In cases where the reports (previously status and follow-up) were disabled, the 360° reports disappeared. That’s now been changed, so if any of the 360° reports are enabled, you cannot disable reports in the course.
Planner and default sorting
The default sorting in table view and within a topic will be date (ascending) for deadline-driven courses. If there are no dates added to a plan, plans will be sorted according to their creation date.
Pinning a plan
Teachers can pin a plan to course overview. We are adding a pinned mark on the plan card, so users understand why it appears on top of course overview page.
View learning objectives added to topics in table view
Teachers can add learning objectives to their topics. This information will now also be available in table view, when opening the topic tab.
Global search in the main menu
We are continuing the gradual rollout of moving the new global search to the main menu from the personal menu.

Released fixes in itslearning-2024.9.2

ITS-90384 | Fixed an issue where users could get a “this app requires a license” error when accessing an LTI 1.3 application, depending on where the application is shared. |
ITS-89353 | Dependent on certain settings, teachers were not able to see some calendar event, that they should be able to see. |
2024.9.1 - Release Product Updates in itslearning
Send message by hotkey
Users can instantly send a message by using the keyboard shortcut Ctrl+Enter or Cmd+Enter without hitting the send button. The latter option is available for Mac users only.
Option for setting home page link is removed
In the new main menu of itslearning you will now find both Courses (leading to the course cards page, but only if you have access to courses) and Updates (leading to the updates page). Thus the option for the user to decide which of these is ‘Home’ is no longer needed, and is now removed.
Separate quarantine periods for site and course trash cans
The quarantine period is a safety measure designed to prevent the accidental permanent deletion of data in itslearning. Items placed in the site or course trash cans can only be permanently deleted once the quarantine period has elapsed.
Administrators now have the ability to set distinct quarantine durations for:
- Site Trash Can: Contains deleted users, courses, and projects (Admin > Trash Can)
- Course Trash Can: Contains deleted course elements (Course > Settings > Trash Can)
These settings can be configured in Admin > Global Settings > Features and Security. The default quarantine period is 30 days.
With the release, we will automatically update the quarantine times on your site, following these rules:
- Site trash can: If the current quarantine time is set to less than 30 days, we will change it to 30 days.
- Course trash can: The current quarantine time is used.
We recommend checking that the current values meet your needs.
Data Warehouse/OData: Track the use of template courses
Customers using Data Warehouse can now track the use of template courses through OData.
- New field "IsTemplate,” added to Course entity to flag courses that are shared as templates.
- New entity CourseTemplate can be used to get insight on which courses are based on a template, how much and which templates are being used.
Upcoming UX change: Global Content Search Gradually Moving to Main Menu
We are excited to announce that over the next two weeks, the global content search bar will gradually get moved from the personal menu to the main menu for all customers and we'll start a gradual roll out.
The new global content search offers a faster and more intuitive way for users to find relevant resources and activities within itslearning. Users can search for plans, topics, courses, resources, and activities, including content from archived courses, ensuring comprehensive coverage of all relevant materials.
More information can be found here.
Note: Global content search is only available to users for whom administrators have enabled it in profile settings (setting name ‘Search content’).
