1 Overview
360° Reports allow teachers and tutors to compare the progress of all students in a course and identify students who may need additional support. Each student's performance is presented through visual infographics that show engagement, progress, and achievement.
Teachers and tutors can use 360° Reports to understand how each student is engaging and progressing with course content, including time spent in the course and time on task.
Admin setting: 360° Reports must be activated by your system administrator. You will find 360° Reports inside the Reports tab in courses.
There are four reports available:
| Report | Shows |
|---|---|
| Activity | Student activity and visit duration over time. |
| Progress | Completion of activities and resources against course averages. |
| Grades | Grade trends and assessment results against the course average. |
| Resources summary | How many students have accessed each resource and time spent on each. |
Each report has a course-level overview where you can scroll through all students and compare them to the course averages. Clicking on a student name opens a details page with more information. From the details page, you can quickly navigate to a different student or switch to one of the other reports.

Note: For courses with more than 1000 participants, the report summary and export are hidden and you can only sort by name.
2 Activity report
2.1 Activity overview
The Activity overview shows student activity over the past seven days (including the current day) compared to the course averages. You can search for a student and filter by groups.
The visit duration is calculated in real-time and may fluctuate if a student is currently active in the course.
Top section
The top section displays:
- The total number of students who were active (visited) in the course in the previous 7 days and the total number of students in the course.
- A bar chart of the last 7 days of course activity. This is calculated as the total time spent in the course (of all students) divided by the number of visits on that day.
- The average visit duration, calculated by taking the visits of all students in the course since the start of the course. This value may fluctuate at the beginning but will stabilise over time.
Hover over the bar chart to see more details. The tooltip displays the date, the total number of visits that day, the number of visitors, and the approximate average visit duration. The value is usually updated 1–2 minutes after a course participant has made some activity in the course (e.g. visited or viewed the course page for more than one minute). If there is no data, the pop-up box will not appear.

Student list
The student list shows students who are active in the course. It does not list students who have left the course. If you have course groups set up, you can filter the view to show only members of those groups.
| Column | Description |
|---|---|
| Last 7 days activity | Bars representing a student's activity during the last 7 days, calculated by summing up the duration of visits for each day. |
| Average duration | The approximate total time spent in the course by the student divided by the number of visits to the course. |
Hover over a student's bar chart to see the date, the total number of visits that day, and the approximate duration of the visit. If there is no data, the pop-up box will not appear.

2.2 Activity details report
The Activity details report shows detailed activity information for an individual student. At the top of the report you can navigate to a different student, switch to the Progress or Grades report for the same student, or return to the overview.

| Metric | Description |
|---|---|
| Duration, average per day | The approximate average duration of visits to the course, calculated by dividing the total visit duration by the total number of days in which the student was active. This number will fluctuate if the student is currently active. |
| Number of visits, average per day | The average number of visits to the course, calculated by dividing the total number of visits by the total number of days in which the student was active. |
| Week to week activity | Compares the visit duration in the previous week to the visit duration this week. |
| Total duration | The approximate total of all time the student has spent in the course. |
| Total number of visits | The total number of visits the student has made to the course. |
| Last visit | The date the student last visited the course. |
Activity per day
You can switch between a duration view or a number of visits view. This provides a detailed summary of course visits or approximate time spent in the course each month.
Activity heat map
The heat map shows an overview of a student's activity for the last 12 months. You can toggle between:
- Visit duration – information about a student's visit duration time and number of visits on a particular day.
- Actions taken – the student's activity shown as visits to course elements (divided into resources and activities) and their communication activity, for example, taking part in discussions or sending instant messages. Deleted elements or posts are also included in the totals if there is activity.
Hover over the heat map to see more information:

| Tooltip field | Description |
|---|---|
| Date | When the activity occurred. |
| Actions | The total number of actions that day. An action is viewing a resource or activity, or adding a communication such as an announcement comment. |
| Resources | The total number of resources (e.g. pages, files) viewed that day. |
| Activities | The total number of activities (e.g. tasks, assignments) viewed that day. |
| Communication | The total number of announcements and discussion posts created that day. |
Communication
This section shows how the student is engaging with the communication aspects of the course:
| Metric | Description |
|---|---|
| Threads started | The number of new threads started by the student within discussions. |
| Discussion posts | The total number of posts in all discussions for the student in the course. The first post created when starting a thread is also counted. |
| Announcement comments | The number of comments in announcements. |
3 Progress report
The Progress report shows how well students are completing activities such as assignments, tests, and tasks across the course, and the amount of time they spend on their work and reading resources. Progress on mandatory and optional work can be compared against class averages.
Note: In the context of 360° Reports, activities are elements that usually have an assessment or grade (assignments, tests, surveys, tasks, and learning tool extensions with an assessment scale). Manual assessments and LTI tools are excluded. Resources are elements that can be viewed or read (files, lessons, links, notes, and some learning tool elements).
3.1 Progress overview
The Progress overview shows individual student progression against the course average.

Top section
| Field | Description |
|---|---|
| Students | Total number of all participants. |
| Resources | Total number of non-assessable elements (e.g. pages, files). |
| Activities | Total number of assessable elements (e.g. tasks, assignments). |
| Activities completed | The total number of activities completed by each student, divided by the total number of activities each student can participate in. Deleted activities are not included. |
| Resources visited | The total number of resources visited by each student, divided by the number of resources each student can view. Deleted resources are not included. |
Student list
The student list shows only students who are active in the course. It does not list students who have left the course. If you have course groups set up, you can filter the view to show only members of those groups.
For each student, the following is displayed:
- Activities progress – the total number of activities the student has completed, divided by the total number of active (not deleted) activities the student can participate in.
- Resources progress – the number of active resources the student has read at least once, divided by the number of active resources available to the student.
Hover over a student's activities or resources bar to see the total number of items and those that have been completed or visited.
3.2 Progress details report
The Progress details report shows detailed progress information for an individual student. At the top of the report you can navigate to a different student, switch to the Activity or Grades report for the same student, or return to the overview.

Overall progress – Activities
Shows progress through all activities in the course. The Activities count shows the total number of activities open to the student, and Overall progress shows the percentage completed.
Activity status indicators:
| Status | Colour | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| Completed on time | Green | Elements the student completed before the deadline. |
| Completed past deadline | Orange | Elements the student completed after the deadline, where the element is still active. |
| Incomplete past deadline | Red | Elements the student did not complete, where the deadline has passed and the activity is no longer active. |
| Open | Dark grey | Elements that are currently open and ready to be completed. |
| Not active | Light grey | Elements that are not active and awaiting the activation date. Includes elements manually deactivated by the teacher, but excludes those that have passed the expiry date. |
Overall progress – Resources
The Resources count shows the total number of resources available to the student, and Overall progress shows the percentage visited.
| Status | Colour | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| Read | Green | Elements the student has visited. |
| Not read | Dark grey | Elements ready to be read but not yet visited. |
| Not active | Light grey | Elements that have not been activated. |
Course elements
This section lists all elements, shown by default in their course folders and sub-folders. For each element, you can see:
| Column | Description |
|---|---|
| Status | Completed, open, read, or not read. The colour of the tick and cross icons corresponds with the overall progress section. For example, an element marked in orange was completed after the deadline. |
| Last visit date | The date when the student last viewed the element. This may not be the date they submitted an assessment. |
| Time online | An approximate indication of the time spent on the element. If your school has opted out of tracking time online for elements, this column will not appear. |
| Details | Extended information from assessment items (such as the grade) and SCORM elements (grade, status). For SCORM elements that track time, the duration reported by the SCORM package is shown in the Time online column. |
You can filter the list by element type (e.g. assignment, test, page) and by status (e.g. read, complete, incomplete).
4 Grades report
The Grades report shows each student's achievements and grade trends against the course average. Understanding the underlying direction of attainment can give teachers insight into how assessments are working across the course.
Note: Some customers use the assessment record setting "Show course average for each assignment, test, etc." to hide the overall grade average. 360° Reports respect this setting and will also hide the grade average.
4.1 Grades overview
The overview shows individual student grade trends against the course average.

Top section
| Field | Description |
|---|---|
| Students | Total number of all students in the course. |
| Assessments | Number of assessable elements in the selected term (those with an assessment scale or score set up). |
| Grade scales | Number of scales used in assessable elements in the selected term. |
The summary grade trend shows the course average trend for the selected assessment scale and term. You can change the term and assessment scale using the drop-down lists. Changing the selectors will recalculate the overall course grade trend.
▶ Rules for including elements in the trend graph and overall average
For an element to appear in the grade trend graph or be included in the overall grade average, it must:
- Be added to the assessment record.
- Match both the selected Assessment Scale and Term filters.
Both mandatory and non-mandatory items are included. Manual assessments are included.
The overall grade average is calculated by taking the average grade from student averages.
Student list
The student list shows only students who are active in the course. It does not list students who have left the course. If you have course groups set up, you can filter the view to show only members of those groups. The grade trend and average grade follow the same inclusion rules as the top section, but show the individual student's averages only.
4.2 Grades details report
The Grades details report shows the student's grade trend and a summary of assessments. At the top of the report you can navigate to a different student, switch to the Activity or Progress report for the same student, or return to the overview.

Note: You can change the term and assessment scale using the drop-down lists. Changing the selectors will recalculate the grade trend.
Grade trend
- The default grade trend shows all assessment elements (e.g. assignments, tests, tasks) in one graph.
- You can filter by assessment type using the "Overall grade average" selector to show just one type, or return to "all assessments".
- The trend shows the course average for the selected assessment scale and term. Only elements added to the assessment record are shown. Both mandatory and non-mandatory items are included, and manual assessments are included.
Assessments
A summary of the assessments that contribute to the trend graph:
| Bar colour | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Green | Number of activities completed by the deadline. |
| Yellow | Number of activities completed past the deadline. |
| Red | Number of activities that were not completed. |
5 Resources summary report
The Resources Summary Report shows how many students have accessed each course resource and how much time they have spent on each resource. Access the report from the 360° Reports tab in the course page.
This report helps teachers to:
- See at a glance how well students are using resources.
- Identify which resources students are looking at and spending time on.
- See which students are viewing which resources.
- Use the information to refine and improve course resources.

Note: This report is only visible if your organisation has activated 360° Reports. Consult your system administrator if you are unsure. The "Time on task" column is hidden for courses with more than 1300 participants.
6 Notifications and weekly updates
Teachers can send messages to students in their courses directly from 360° Reports to keep them informed about their progress and activity.
Weekly updates
Teachers can opt in to receive weekly updates on course activity. Once you have opted in, you will receive a weekly summary as a message delivered to your desktop or mobile app.

7 Course visit time and time online
The course visit time and time online for course elements should be understood as a helpful indicator of time spent on itslearning, rather than an exact measurement.
The system does not measure exact time down to the second. Access is tracked every few minutes. The reports cannot record time spent outside itslearning — for example, if a student opens Office 365 or a Google account to work on a course assignment. However, if a student opens a course document and then leaves the computer for a short period, this is still counted towards online time.
While not accurate down to the second, this measurement is useful for identifying patterns in how students invest their time:
- It can show comparative time students spend online within itslearning on activities and resources.
- It can indicate where students are struggling — for example, spending too long on a task or resource. Teachers may want to review the element to ensure it is well defined and meets the aims of the course.
- It can show where students are skipping information — for example, not spending enough time on a resource. Teachers may want to review the element to ensure it is well defined and meets the aims of the course.
- It provides a more meaningful measure than a simple "accessed yes or no" indicator.
For example: a teacher uploads a 10-minute video and asks students to review it. The Progress report can show which students ignored the video, who watched it for only a few minutes, and who spent about the full time or longer watching it.
