1. What You'll Accomplish
By the end of this guide, you'll have created your first fully functional course with basic settings configured and ready for content. This process typically takes a few minutes minutes and gives you a starting foundation for teaching with itslearning.
2. Before You Begin
• Ensure you have Teacher access to itslearning
• Know your course name and subject area
• Consider what colour and image might help students identify your course
3. Quick Start Workflow
Step 1: Access Course Page:
If you start on your Dashboard, navigate to the Courses page and click the green "Create course" button in the upper right.
Step 2: Enter Basic Course Information in this window
- Title: Enter your course name (e.g., "Mathematics Year 9")
- Code: Add a course code if required by your organisation
- Course Focus: Decide if this is a teacher led course, or a self paced course where students work at their own pace with minimal teacher involvement.
- Colour: Select a colour that will help students identify your course
Step 3: Set Organisation:
Choose your organisation from the dropdown menu (this may be pre-selected by a system administrator on your site).
Step 4: Add Course Image (Optional)
Click "Add image" to either choose from premade illustrations, or upload a course image that represents your subject area.
You can:
- Click the "Add image" area to browse files on your computer
- Drag and drop an image directly into the upload area
- Choose illustrations and choose a picture
- Skip this step and add an image later
-> Image appears in the course preview (if uploaded)
Step 5: Choose Template (Optional):
If available on your site , a template can be applied to your new course that populates the course with premade content.
- Click "Browse templates" to see available course templates
- Select a template that matches your subject area
- Or skip this step to start with a blank course
✓ Checkpoint: At this point your page should look something like this:
Step 6: Create Your Course:
Click the green "Create course" button to finish setup.
✓ Checkpoint: You're automatically taken to your new course overview page
Step 7: Verify Course Creation Check that your course appears in your course page with the correct:
- Course name, colour and image
