A More Accessible and Modern Resource Page
itslearning is continuously improving accessibility and modernizing the platform’s design. As part of this effort, we’ve redesigned the Resource page, giving it a fresh, modern, and more user-friendly look.
Our prime motivation for this change is to make all of resource management accessible for users who cannot use a mouse and/or use a screen reader. One of the biggest changes is the removal of the resource tree which was not accessible. However, after user feedback we have created a “content map” view which shows the resources as a table of contents (or tree) so this view will remain, but be accessible for all.
We’ve also introduced breadcrumbs, making navigation between pages smoother and more intuitive.
Elements in Teacher View | Elements in Student View | Description |
![]() | ![]() | Recently Published The "Recently Published" section allows you to keep track of all the new items uploaded by the teacher. For instance, when you upload “The Legacy of William Shakespeare,” it will appear at the top of the list until a new item is added. Due to pagination, the list of recently published items can be extensive; however, you will always see page 1 at the beginning. |
![]() | Student dont see the Content Map. | Content Map The Content Map serves as the replacement for the previously inaccessible tree menu that was located on the left side of the screen (refer to the Old Resource page above). When you are within a folder and upload a file or add new items, such as an Assignment or a Test, these will be displayed in your Content Map. What about drag and drop?Unfortunately, drag and drop functionality is not available in the Content Map due to accessibility considerations. |
![]() | Students don't see the Trash. | Trash The Trash feature is exclusively available for teachers. We have conveniently added it to the left menu for easier access. Within the Trash, you can effortlessly restore or permanently delete your content. |
![]() | ![]() | Breadcrumbs In our ongoing efforts to enhance navigation, we are pleased to introduce breadcrumbs. This feature allows you to quickly access the desired folder and effortlessly monitor your location within the resource page. Students: Will have the same access to breadcrumbs as Teachers. |
![]() | Students will see the Pinning | Your pinned resources Your pinned resources is a place you can store your most important elements. It is limited for 10 pins maximum. The pinning is personal, so a teacher can not pin for a student. To track how many pinnings you have left, click on the key next to “Your pinned resources“. |
![]() | Students will see the Pinning | Your pinned resources (Edit) The edit version of the pinning is to help the teacher or student easily delete pins and see how many pins you have left or how many you can add. |
![]() | ![]() | Pagination The pagination feature is an integral part of our new template available in itslearning. Both students and teachers can utilize it in the same manner to access various items efficiently. |
Changing for the better: A comparison of the old version (top) vs the newer version(bottom).
Old Resource Page
New Resource Page
What is new?
- Breadcrumbs – An easier and more accessible way to navigate. When moving between folders and different elements, we’ve added breadcrumbs to make it simple to return to the desired area, whether using a mouse or keyboard.
- Content Map– The folder structure on the left side of the screen has been replaced with the Content Map (see screenshot below) .Navigating to this will reveal a new and improved folder structure, providing an overview of all your resources. It’s clearly labeled with new icons to ensure the best possible workflow.
- Trash – The trash will now be accessible directly from the left-hand side menu, making it easier to restore or permanently delete items without extra steps or clicks. Previously, it was partially hidden under “Settings” (the three dots in the upper right-hand corner of the course page). Only teachers will have access to the trash.
- Improved Keyboard Navigation Sequence - Reaching everything using your keyboard.
- Enhanced Screen reader Compatibility - Enjoy a smoother experience with screen readers, making our platform more accessible to visually impaired users.
- Recently Published – Based on feedback from our research, there was a desire for a “Recently Published” folder. This allows students to quickly see what teachers have added. Now, you’ll easily spot what’s new if you click on “Recently Published“ on the left side.
- Pinning – To help manage multiple folders and documents, we've introduced the My pinned resources.
You can pin up to 10 important documents, allowing quick access to assignments and files. Once you're done with something pinned, just click Unpin and it will be removed from your list. This will be available for both teachers and students.
Navigating change
As we move to this new interface, we understand it may feel different from what you’re used to. However, we believe you’ll quickly adapt to the changes, as this should help you more when it comes to navigation and overview of your content. Please note that this is a universal update, and the old tree menu will no longer be available.
Note: Please note that the features and information described on this page are subject to change and may be updated before the official release.
