TABLE OF CONTENTS
Plan types
We offer two distinct plan types:
- Deadline-driven
- Self-paced
By default, courses are deadline-driven and we display all 4 tabs: Current, past, without date, topics. To switch to self-paced plans, teachers can select the plan type: “Self-paced” on the plan settings page. When choosing this plan type, teachers enable their students to progress at their own pace. Plans have no time constraints, and activities have no deadlines (however, the option to set deadlines for activities remains available).
Task updates are not shown on the course card for students when opening the itslearning start page.
Workflows
We will provide two distinct workflows for self-paced courses:
One plan at a time:
a linear approach, allowing access to one plan at a time
All plans at once:
a non-linear approach, granting access to all plans simultaneously

Plan settings page, self-paced plan type
One plan at a time
- To activate the next plan, a student must complete all elements within the current plan. The plans are organised in the same sequence as displayed in the "All plans" tab.
- Students will always find their current plan in the course overview. If they are visiting the course for the first time, the first plan under the "All plans" tab will be presented. If they go to Plans page, they can see two tabs: All plans & Topics. All plans and topics are visible to students, but only the first plan can be opened, all the other plans are locked. While students can see the number of resources associated with each plan, they cannot click to open the plan cards.
- Once a student has completed all resources and activities in the first plan, they can complete the plan. Upon completion, the next plan listed in "All plans" will be unlocked and opened, becoming the current plan displayed in the course overview for that student. When a plan is completed, the next plan will automatically open in single plan mode.
- When the student navigates to the Plans page, they will notice that their second plan is now unlocked, and they can also access their first plan, which is now marked as completed.
- Resources in the course menu are not visible to students.
- The “Latest changes” section in the course overview is hidden from students.
- In the “Updates” section, any content directly linked to a resource or activity is concealed from students in the “Recent updates” area.
- Students do not have access to the table view for plans.
- Task list: Students can only view tasks from plans they are permitted to access.

All plans at once
- Students can access all plans within this course. It is not necessary for them to complete every element in a plan to activate the next one.
- Students will always see the last plan they worked on in the course overview. If they are visiting the course for the first time, the first plan listed under the "All Plans" tab will be displayed. When navigating to the Plans page, they will find two tabs: All Plans and Topics. All topics and plans are accessible to students.
- Resources in the course menu are visible to students.

Pinning a plan
In a self-paced course, pinning a plan is only feasible when selecting the workflow option “All plans at once.” Within this workflow, teachers have the flexibility to pin any plan they choose. However, it is not possible to pin a plan when using the workflow “One plan at a time.”
