Before reading this document, please read the Gradebook Plus/Assessment Record Overview.
The Gradebook/Assessment Record settings can be accessed from the ellipsis located in the top right of the page.
There are three options – Gradebook/Assessment Record settings, Assessment weighting and Help.
Settings
When Gradebook/Assessment Record settings is selected (see above), the user will be directed to the third tab (see image below). (Note: These settings can also be accessed via the second navigation bar in the header by going to the "More" menu, selecting "Settings" and then selecting "Assessment settings".)
The following settings can be adjusted:
- Weighting
The teacher can turn on weighting on single assessments, average for participants and course average for each assessment such as an assignment or test. - Average
When average for participants is enabled, an additional tab titled "Average and count" will be visible in assessment record. - Export to a CSV file
The user can choose what data is included in the CSV file when selecting the option to "Export to CSV file" from the Gradebook page.
Assessment Weighting
When assessment weighting is enabled, you can enter a numerical weight/value to assignments, tests, or tasks. Unless weighting is utilized, all are calculated as a percentage (100%). The option for weighting assessments allows you to increase the value for individual assignments. For example, one assignment might be multiplied twice while another one counts three times toward an average. Final assessments cannot be weighted.
In the Gradebook/Assessment Record overview, the assessment weight can be viewed by hovering over the element header and will appear in the tooltip.
Assessment Scales
The first tab, "Assessment scale" displays the available scales in the course, including custom scales made by the course teacher.
- The Created column displays the role of the user who created the scale. Scales created by "Admin" cannot be modified.
- If scores are to be used for assessing work, the Admin is required to include this as a scale. Scales are not required for tests.
- Score cannot be created as a scale by the teacher. If score is included as an assessment scale it will always be on top of the list of scales.
- Score as a scale will give the teacher the ability to set a max score for an assessment.
- For tests, the max score will be calculated automatically, summarizing the score for each question in the test.
- For assignments and custom assessments, the teacher will add the max score when selecting score as assessment. The following screenshot illustrates the aforementioned:
- Given that a teacher has the appropriate permissions in the course, assessment scales can be created via the "Create" button.
Categories
Categories can be defined to organize assessments in the Gradebook.
Creating, deleting and re-arranging categories
- Create categories
Click the "Add" button under the Categories sub-header. Enter a title in the text field. Click "Save" to create the category. - Deleting categories
- A category can be deleted by clicking the checkbox next to the category title and then clicking the "Delete" button. Categories can be deleted in bulk by selecting multiple checkboxes and then clicking the "Delete button.
- Re-arranging categories
Categories can be rearranged by using the "Up" and "Down" buttons.
Categories weighting
- Categories can be weighted by selecting the "Yes" radio button under the "Use weighting for categories" section and then selecting "Save".
- A new column titled "Weight" will appear to the right of the category title with a numerical weight value and corresponding auto-calculated percentage.
- If categories exist prior to enabling category weighting, the categories will be equally split by default. The user may adjust the numbers in the weight field to adjust the category weights. The percentage field will automatically update as each category weight value is modified.
