itslearning's course structure can be set up in two ways:
- Building materials in the resources tab only
- Incorporating the use of the planner
itslearning's customizable planner is designed to support effective instructional strategies and provide transparency for both the learner and parent. The planner also guides students through learning.
The planner also saves teachers' time and hassle when designing experiences for students. Additionally, the planner has the potential to replace teacher-created web pages, academic newsletters, or absentee folders. Students and parents can view the planner, which clearly provides a summary of learning goals, links to important resources, notes, and much more.
If the planner is not in use or has been deactivated, users may use the resources tab to navigate through course materials. This section is like a filing cabinet and can be organized in a way that best fits the needs of the teacher and her students.
Additionally, resources can be linked to bulletins, meaning that teachers may simply use bulletins to post assignments and communicate to students.
Benefits of Using Planner
The planner is designed to streamline course organization by automatically building materials within the resources tab and allowing teachers to create standards-aligned lessons quickly and effectively. The planner isn't a traditional schedule of events, but more of a roadmap for learning. Teachers, parents, students, and administrators can have access to plans, so that everyone clearly understands how learning will be generated, supported, and assessed.
The planner can be customized and reused year after year. When dates are aligned with plans, the plan and activities are automatically activated and populate on the course overview page. Students will not only have access to the day's plan, but also open the planner to view previous plans and activities.
Notice that standards have been added to the plan above, so any resources added to this plan will automatically be aligned with these standards - saving time and hassle!
Note: If the planner has been deactivated within your course, navigate to course settings, course properties and features, and then enable the planner, then choose save.
